(North Carolina) “As a potter, I am drawn to the subtle details I observe in nature, such as the way a leaf is connected to its stem, the variation in ripples of water, or the tones of shadows and filtered light. Firing my wheel thrown stoneware and porcelain in a soda kiln reveals variation within the textured surfaces. With each firing, I anticipate the reactions between the clay, slips, wood ash and soda.” Joy Tanner
